POLICE operatives in Delta State have arrested two men suspected of armed robbery after uncovering a pump-action shotgun, a live cartridge, and two daggers during a routine stop-and-search at the Second Niger Bridge.
The suspects, Ugo Chukwu Kendirim, 25, and Odo Jude, 27, were intercepted on 27 May 2026 while travelling in an unregistered blue Hijet Cargo minibus from Anambra State into Delta State, according to a police statement released on Friday.
Officers from the Department of Operations (DOPS) Buffalo Team, who were conducting a targeted patrol at the bridge, said the occupants of the vehicle initially tried to discourage them from searching the minibus and threatened to record the officers on their phones if the search went ahead.
Despite the intimidation, the operatives proceeded with a thorough inspection of the vehicle, where they discovered the loaded pump-action gun, a live cartridge, and the two daggers.
The Delta State Police Public Relations Officer, SP Bright Edafe, confirmed that both men were taken into custody immediately. Preliminary investigations are under way to establish how the suspects came to possess the items and whether they have links to wider criminal activity in the region.
Commissioner of Police, CP Yemi Oyeniyi, praised the officers for their vigilance and professionalism, reiterating the command’s commitment to intelligence-led policing and proactive crime prevention.
“We will continue to deny criminal elements any operating space within the state,” CP Oyeniyi said.
The suspects are expected to appear in court once investigations have been concluded.
