ASABA — In a major victory for the Nigeria Police Force‘s ongoing crackdown on organised crime, operatives in Delta State have dismantled a suspected drug distribution network, seizing a substantial haul of illicit substances and apprehending a key suspect.

The operation, carried out on 8th August by the Command’s Violent Crime Response Unit (VCRU), targeted a suspected criminal enclave at Owa-Abbi in Ukwani Local Government Area. Acting on what police described as “credible and actionable intelligence”, officers raided the premises, resulting in the arrest of 56-year-old Lucky Oyiboka.

A thorough search of the property uncovered twenty-one bags of weeds suspected to be Indian hemp, representing one of the Command’s largest single seizures in recent months.

Police sources confirmed that preliminary investigations have linked the suspect to the wider distribution of illicit drugs in the region. Detectives are now working to unravel the full extent of the network and identify other individuals connected to the operation.

Delta State Commissioner of Police, CP Yemi Oyeniyi, praised the VCRU team for their precision and professionalism, reiterating the Command’s unwavering commitment to intelligence-led policing.

“These sustained operations are crucial to dismantling criminal networks and curbing the proliferation of illicit drugs across the State,” CP Oyeniyi stated. He also appealed to members of the public to continue providing credible and timely information, assuring that informants’ identities would be treated with the utmost confidentiality.

The suspect remains in police custody and is expected to face charges before a court of law upon the conclusion of investigations.

This breakthrough comes as part of the broader crime-fighting initiative spearheaded by the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olatunji Rilwan Disu, who has prioritised the war against narcotics and violent crime nationwide.
