Nigerian soldier stabs artisan to death, flees

A yet-to-be-identified soldier in the Nigerian Army has reportedly stabbed an artisan, who repairs electronics, to death.

The killing has reportedly generated tension at the popular Kugbo Mechanic Village on Abuja-Keffi Expressway as the knife-wielding soldier fled the scene.

Reports said there was an altercation between the assailant and the artisan leading to fisticuffs.

In the process, the overwhelmed soldier allegedly brought out a knife and stabbed the artisan popularly called “Yellow” leading to his demise.

The development led to a violent protest by the deceased’s colleagues, who set the soldier’s car ablaze after he bolted away.

The ensuing melee reportedly made other artisans and traders hurriedly close shop for fear of hoodlums hijacking the situation to loot.

“The soldier came with a car for the electrician to fix; after a few hours, they started an argument in which the soldier brought out a knife to defend himself and stabbed the man to death and ran away.

“His car was burnt by colleagues of the deceased. But the situation is calm now because a few policemen entered the market,” a witness noted.

A spare parts dealer said, “The soldier came with the car first to me, but I told him that I was busy, he should give it to another person; they started with a heated argument resulting in the killing of the electrician and burning of the soldier’s vehicle.”

No official statement to the incident yet from the Nigerian Army or the Nigeria Police.
