“These arrests are a result of our dedication to protecting public assets,” said SP Josephine Adeh, Police Public Relations Officer, FCT Command, in a statement.
“We will ensure that those responsible are brought to justice and held accountable for their actions.”
The arrests followed intelligence-led operations targeting illegal scrap yards, commonly referred to as panteka.
Recovered items included manhole covers, armoured cables, and streetlights. All suspects pleaded “not guilty” during their arraignment and have been remanded at Keffi Correctional Centre pending further proceedings.
The court has adjourned the case to January 30, 2025, for continued hearing.
The Commissioner of Police, FCT Command, has reaffirmed the Police’s commitment to maintaining law and order. “Safeguarding public infrastructure is critical for the development of our communities,” the Commissioner stated, urging residents to report suspicious activities to help curb the menace.
The Police emphasised the importance of collective responsibility in protecting public infrastructure.
