Delta Police Intercept Arms, Arrest Two Gun Runners

THE Delta State Police Command has intercepted a large cache of firearms and ammunition, arresting two suspected gun runners during separate stop-and-search operations.

In the first operation on 3rd March, officers of the Dragon 14 unit stopped a blue Toyota Camry along Warri/Benin Road near Western Delta University, Oghara. A thorough search revealed a hidden compartment containing three AK-47 rifles, 3,120 rounds of ammunition, and four boxes of 51mm rounds.
The driver, Peter James, 55, from Uyo, Akwa Ibom State, was immediately arrested.
Three days later, on 6th March, the Dragon Patrol Team 02 intercepted a navy blue Sharon space bus along the Asaba/Benin expressway near the National Open University, Onicha-Ugbo.

The vehicle’s occupants, Yahuza Magaji, 69, and Abba Sani, 17, from Kaduna, had concealed seven pump-action guns and 1,600 rounds of live cartridges beneath the back seat while disguising as traders transporting palm oil and garri. Investigations revealed they had purchased the arms in Onitsha and were transporting them to Kaduna.

Commending the officers, Commissioner of Police Olufemi Abaniwonda stated, “This is a testament to our resolve to flush out criminal elements. We will continue to intensify our operations to ensure the safety of residents.”
He urged police personnel across the state to “remain vigilant and relentless in the fight against crime.”
The suspects remain in custody as investigations continue.
