Delta State Police Clamp Down on Kidnappers, Gun Runners

DELTA State security operatives have intensified their efforts against criminal activities, with the CP Special Assignment Team making significant breakthroughs in recent days.

Suspected Kidnapper Arrested, AK-47 Rifle Recovered
On 26th March 2025, operatives of the CP Special Assignment Team, led by ASP Julius Robinson, tracked down and arrested a suspected kidnapper, Chedeye Mohammed, in Rivers State.
Upon interrogation, Mohammed led the police to a bush behind a trailer park where an AK-47 rifle loaded with thirteen rounds of 7.62mm live ammunition was recovered. Preliminary investigations revealed that the suspect and his gang were involved in kidnappings across Ughelli, Agbarho, and other areas before retreating to Rivers State to evade law enforcement.

“Efforts to apprehend other members of his gang are ongoing,” a police spokesperson confirmed.
Armed Robbery and Gun Running Ring Busted
Acting on credible intelligence, the CP Special Assignment Team launched a sting operation in Anyangba town, Kogi State, leading to the arrest of three suspects: Zakari Mohammed (31), Ibrahim Mumuni (29), and Mohammed Hamisu (25), all from Dekina Local Government Area.

During a search of their residences, officers recovered an AK-47 rifle and an automatic pump-action gun. Further investigation led to the arrest of another suspect, Samaila Mohammed (35), in Udo community, where police seized a Beretta pistol loaded with three rounds of live ammunition and cartridges.
“These arrests mark a major breakthrough in dismantling organised crime networks in the state,” an officer stated.
Ammunition Supplier Apprehended
In a separate operation on 25th March 2025, the police arrested Emu Lucky (35) in Olomoro community, Isoko South LGA. A search of his premises uncovered eighty-two rounds of 7.62mm ammunition.

Investigations linked Lucky to Mohammed Bellow, a suspected kidnapper already in custody, who allegedly facilitated arms sales between gun runners and criminal gangs.
Commissioner of Police Assures Residents
Commissioner of Police Abaniwonda Olufemi reiterated his commitment to maintaining security in Delta State.
“We will sustain this momentum to ensure the safety of all residents. Our mandate, as given by the Inspector General of Police, is to make sure Deltans can sleep with both eyes closed,” he affirmed. He also called for greater cooperation from the public to support ongoing efforts.
All suspects remain in custody as investigations continue.
