According to him, the suspect identified as Precious, from Ejeme in Delta State, is notorious for stealing motorcycles and had just been released from prison seven days earlier.

During investigation, the police recovered one of the stolen bikes, two generator sets and a weighing scale used in gas stations from an alleged receiver of stolen property, who reportedly influenced the suspect into returning to crime.

SP Edafe said that there has been an upsurge of people who break into people’s homes, stealing their generator sets and that there are people who receive these stolen items and sell them at the a cheap price.

Narrating his ordeal, Precious said he had earlier sold a stolen motorcycle to the man in whose house the recovered items were found. He alleged that the man arrested him, tied him up and ordered him to steal another motorcycle to replace the one he had previously lost.

“After I came back, the man got information that I was back. He came to pick me up, tied me and ordered me to go steal another bike for him to recover the one he lost.

“I was the one that stole the previous bike too, which was later recovered from him.

“I stole this one from a welder’s shop where it was parked. I disconnected it, it started, and I was about to take it away when I was caught,” Precious confessed.

SP Bright added that the police would continue to intensify efforts in tackling the rising cases of housebreaking and theft of motorcycles and generator sets across the state.
