Ondo Police Arrest Armed Robbery Suspect, Recover Stolen Vehicle In Akure

THE Ondo State Police Command has arrested a suspected armed robber and recovered a stolen vehicle following a swift response to a distress call in Akure, the state capital.

Police sources disclosed that at about 1:30p.m last Friday, the Command received a distress call reporting an armed robbery incident at Eleyewo Quarters, Akure.

The victims, identified as Olamiposi Omoniyi and Daniel Omoniyi, were reportedly attacked by four armed men.

Upon receiving the report, operatives of the Special Weapons and Tactics (SWAT) unit were immediately mobilised to the scene.

Before the arrival of the police, the assailants were said to have fired several gunshots, injuring the victims and forcefully dispossessing them of their Toyota Camry with Lagos registration number KRD 814 HX.

According to a police source, a coordinated operation was promptly launched with the cooperation and support of vigilant youths in the community.

During the operation, one of the suspects was arrested, while the stolen vehicle and a cutlass were successfully recovered.

The injured victims were immediately taken to a hospital, where they are currently receiving medical treatment.

The arrested suspect, identified as Nurudeen, aged 35, reportedly confessed to the crime.

Meanwhile, discreet investigations have commenced to track down and apprehend the remaining members of the gang who are still at large.

The Commissioner of Police, Adebowale Lawal, commended the operatives for their swift and professional response, as well as the community youths for their cooperation and vigilance.

He also expressed profound appreciation to the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, for his continuous support, strategic leadership and provision of operational backing, which have significantly enhanced the Command’s crime-fighting capacity.

The Ondo State Police Command reiterated its commitment to the protection of lives and property and urged members of the public to continue providing timely and credible information to the police.
